‘A Woman’s Work is Never Done’

Opening 23rd July at Tolson Museum.
Part of the 'We Are West Yorkshire' joint project.

Female rag sorters wearing ex-army uniforms. From Kirklees Image Archive (K001564).

We had a fantastic 2018 celebrating the centenary of votes for women and will be continuing our exploration into local women’s history throughout 2019...

Our new photographic exhibition will look at the working lives of women from across West Yorkshire during the 19th and early 20th centuries. From rag sorters to bomb makers, discover the limitations placed on women’s work and the opportunities created by the First World War.

George V and Queen Mary visiting the Army Clothing Salvage Depot in Dewsbury.
From the Kirklees Image Archive (K001133).

The exhibition will draw extensively from the Kirklees Image Archive, our digitised collection of over 60,000 images: http://www.kirkleesimages.org.uk/ and is part of the ‘We Are West Yorkshire’ joint exhibitions project.
