Women's Suffrage Work

On 21st March 1907, Ann was arrested in Westminster for protesting with members of the Women’s Social and Political Union.

She had travelled to London with Mary Scawthorn, Sarah Pogson, Elizabeth Pinnance, Dora Thewlis and Ellen Brook.

Annie was sentenced to a fine of 20 shillings or 14 days imprisonment in Holloway. She chose to go to prison with the others.

Biography

Annie was born in Hartlepool in 1881. Her father George was a Master Tailor and together with his wife Elizabeth they had three daughters and five sons.

By the age of nine, the family had moved to Lockwood where Annie would remain.

In the 1911 census, Annie was living with family at 101 Moor End Road, Lockwood and was working as a Woollen Weaver. It is unclear what happened to Annie after this date.
